Textiles & Mixed Media, One-of-a-kind
16 x 16
This Dr. Zhivago-inspired piece is handcrafted from a textured cotton and silk 1950's cocktail dress. Along with two other art pillows, The Anastasia was recently featured in a local juried Fiber Art Exhibition. I have created multiple layers of textiles on the front and sides of the pillow by hand stitching to the dress fabric vintage mink, Antique French embroidery, and vintage French lace trim. To contrast the luxurious textiles, I have framed the top antique embroidered silk French runner with vintage Chanel beads and crystals and jeweled 1960's collar. On the sides, the vintage French lace is bordered with vintage chain. The centerpiece of this textile creation is a multi-pronged vintage amber brooch on a bed of fluffy white mink. The pillow is backed with a 1960's cream and amber metallic cocktail dress fabric to complement the soft colors throughout the design. For this textile art piece, I created the metallic beading to accent these specific textiles to bring out the multi-dimensional textures of each fabric and trim.
